Managing The Toronto Star's Snapchat
I manage The Toronto Star's content calendar for the brand's Snapchat page by networking with reporters and seeing how their content can be turned into stories. Often, I assign stories on my own. Because the account was experimental when we first started it, we had room to play around.
#FastFriday
I hosted #FastFriday with Wheels editor Maurice Cacho. Together, we test drove and reviewed cars on Snapchat. After filming, I promoted the QR code on Twitter and measured analytics.
Spring Training
One of my favourite Snapchats had our Sports reporter Brendan Kennedy go to Spring Training in Florida, to watch the Blue Jays. He did a behind the scenes look at his day, from crummy morning coffee (life on the road isn't glamorous) to videos of Bautista, up close.
Pokemon GO
When Pokemon GO was launched in Toronto, we invited readers to come to The Toronto Star building at 1 Yonge Street to catch Pokemon. We filmed the meetup on Facebook Live and chatted with players. While one of the social producers filmed Facebook Live, I interviewed players on Snapchat. The feature, which originally began as a social exclusive pitched by a reporter, got a prime spot in the paper.
